Creating news feeds from Google News

Jul 19, 2006 | Uncategorized | 0 comments

This may be old news but I found a way to create your own specific RSS news feeds using Google news. After going to Google News, create your search. You can go to the advanced search and limit which sites are searched and which ones are left out. For an example, I wanted to search for any news on the Eastern Kentucky University Colonels, but I didn’t want to search the Western Kentucky Athletic site. That way if they post a story on how a player did against us, it won’t show up in my feed.

You can have the search leave out a site by putting a –site:sitename at the end. Here is my search term for the EKU search

“eastern kentucky = colonels -site:wkusports.com

After you run the search and it brings in what you want, on the left side of the page you will see the RSS link. Click it and it will take you to a XML page with the feed address in it. Just copy and past that into Bloglines or what ever you use for RSS and you have your feed.
